According to an article in the Daily Mail, the number of people in the UK getting Wills written increased by around 300% during this last year under the pandemic.

Also that there is a correlation between news bulletins and Will Writing with the most Wills written in a day being on 6th April 2020 when Boris Johnson went into hospital and subsequently on day one of the vaccines, there was a significant drop in Will Writing.

So why should you make a Will

Having a Will gives you control over what happens to your money, possessions and property when you die.

If you die without a Will, your assets will be divided up following the rules of intestacy meaning there is no guarantee that your estate will go where you want it to…. your loved ones. Having your estate divided in this way could also lead to court applications and disputes, especially when there are children involved.

Writing a Will also makes sense if your estate would be subject to inheritance tax.

How will my Will be found

First and foremost you should tell a close family member where it is stored so that it can be easily accessed when needed. You can register your Will with a storage company and solicitors will also hold copies of your Will.

There are several ways of getting a Will made, online, through a solicitor or through companies like ourselves who specialise in estate palanning and are accredited through the Society of Will Writers and at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference.

At Asset Harbour, we don’t just write you a Will, we take time to understand your circumstances and wishes to enable us to be able to offer you more than just a Will… complete peace of mind for you and your family.
